TABLE MOUNTAIN NP ROUTE

SKELETON GORGE

Skeleton Gorge is a popular route and not without reason. The trail criss-crosses a stream through lush afromontane forest where shade and birdsong are plentiful. The gorge ends at the Hely-Hutchinson Dam - a perfect spot for a snack after the climb.

Can be slippery after rain and during winter.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The recommended route starts at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (which charges an entrance fee), Rycroft Gate. The path is paved and climbs gently and segways into a stepped-path leading to the Contour Path. Follow the signs to Skeleton Gorge. Meander along the contour path until the start of the gorge on your left. From here it is steep, with the occassional ladder and scramble. The path follows the river before gently zig-zagging to the top. Once at a four-way fork in the path, go straight to get the Hely-Hutchinson Reservoir.
