What's been going on at Forge - January 2022
Updated: Feb 11
Happy New Year to our followers, friends and fans! We wish you all a successful 2022 and hope the year's journey includes many a beautiful trail and peak and hope you make Forge a part of it! Here is the latest news from Forge.
New map in the Drakensberg
As our Christmas gift to you, we released our 38th map on the platform, Cathedral Peak. The Cathedral Peak/Mlambonja area of the Drakensberg is arguably one of the most scenic areas in the country. Numerous peaks tower over crystal clear streams, forests and an extensive trail network. It can be explored from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife's Didima Camp or Cathedral Peak Hotel.
Engaging Instagram Competition with top SA brands
We partnered with current app sponsor HI-TEC SA and Devil's Peak Brewing Company (Pty) Ltd in the Live Your Local Instagram competition. Thanks to all of those who took part and congrats to the eventual winner.
Map and App updates
We are finalising some really neat design tweaks to the maps that will hopefully assist with visualisation and usability which will be released soon. In the meantime, we've released a minor update to the Forge mobile app - making Table Mountain route maps more accessible and squishing bugs that interfered with making calls directly from the maps.
Other exciting projects
We have been continuing to work on the exciting geology app prototype with Geological Society of South Africa's Western Cape branch which was showcased to stakeholders in mid-December. The app will be released this year so keep an eye out for that.
In partnership with Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, we will soon be putting up some posters around their reserves and parks. These posters will have a QR code on them, enabling new users to download the app on the spot.
Be sure to get the free Forge App on your mobile and download our offline maps to take with you onto the mountain, then share the stoke using #ForgeSA
